WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) Sept. 13, 2018 - 6 a.m.
The Wichita Ice Center has set a date for the return of on-ice activities.
In a Facebook post, the facility said it will re-open for skating Monday.
The Delano ice rink has been without ice since its chiller system broke in August.
The Wichita Ice Center says it should soon have ice again.
Earlier this month, the center says the City of Wichita agreed to do a temporary chiller which will allow NHL ice to be installed.
That temporary chiller arrived Thursday and there are plans to start the cooling process over the weekend. The hope is to start making ice the middle of next week, the ice center says.
Last month, the center had to cancel classes and a figure skating championship after an ammonia leak and a broken pipe in the chiller. Owners said no one could even look into the problem until Aug. 13.
When they announced plans to get ice back on the rinks earlier this month, the center says even with the temporary fix, it'll have to be creative with scheduling.
"We will do our best to ensure all our user groups will have the opportunity to skate, figure skate and play hockey," read a post on the center's Facebook page.
