WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) The Shockers have a lot to celebrate Thursday night.
Koch Arena erupted when senior Samajae Haynes-Jones shot the game-winning jumper with a second on the clock, defeating the UCONN Huskies, 65-63.
Haynes-Jones’ 20-point game was his third of the year but his first since Jan. 6 against Temple.
Haynes-Jones is the first Shocker in 10 years to hit two game-winners in the final second during the same season. He hit a game-winning reverse layup to beat SMU on Jan. 30. Toure’ Murry delivered twice as a freshman in 2008-09 (both at home).
The victory also marked head coach Gregg Marshall's 300th at win at Koch Arena. He’s 300-111 in 12 seasons on the Shocker bench and just six wins shy of 500 for his career.
The Shockers travel to SMU on Sunday for a 1 p.m. CT tip. The game airs nationally on CBS Sports Network.
WSU plays its final regular season home game two days later (Tuesday) against ECU. Tip time is 8 p.m. CT. Seniors McDuffie and Haynes-Jones will be honored afterward.
