Wichita State reports phishing scam to FBI after 3 employees lose paychecks

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) Wichita State University says it has reported a payroll phishing scam to the FBI.

The university says three employees lost their payroll direct deposit as a result of an email that included a link and advised them to enter their employee ID and password.

The university said its computer system was not hacked or compromised as a result of the scam. There is also no evidence that any student information has been compromised.

Wichita State said employees should never respond to an email with a link asking for their employee ID and password.

Employees who may have provided any information are advised to change their password immediately and make sure your direct deposit information is correct.

The university said it will never send a link asking for credentials.
