WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) A Wichita attorney pleaded guilty to theft after spending nearly $1 million of a 103-year-old woman's trust money.
Arrest records show Larry Toomey spent more than $961,000 from the woman's bank accounts over seven years. The woman was in poor health and living in a nursing facility.
Toomey used more than $460,000 of that money for gambling. In one interview with police, Toomey claimed some of the money was a gift the woman authorized. He said any gambling winnings went back into the account.
Toomey also told police he was a compulsive gambler and was being treated for addiction. Sentencing for Toomey is set for Oct. 4.
