Wichita man charged in police shooting, robbery, chase

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) A man Wichita police say was the driver of a stolen jeep that led to a massive chase in northwest Wichita made his first appearance in court Tuesday afternoon.

James Stanford is charged with assault an officer, battery, fleeing from cops and theft.

Police say he was the driver of a stolen jeep which tried to run over an officer at the McDonald's on north Amidon. The officer fired at the jeep.

Stanford crashed the vehicle after a chase and ran from the scene. He was later arrested in the area of 29th St. N. and N. Meridian.

Stanford's bond is set at $100,000.
