Family of Lucas Hernandez raising funds to hire private investigator

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) Tuesday night, April 10

Lucas Hernandez's father, Jonathan Hernandez, says he's setting up a bank account linked to a GoFundMe page with his mother and stepmother to raise money for a private investigator.

Klein investigations and consulting have agreed to take the case. Hernandez says they require a $25,000 retainer fee to begin the investigation process

The GoFundMe page to raising money to hire a private investigator requests $28,000 to account for the percentage GoFundMe takes from each campaign, Hernandez explains.

Klein released a statement saying if the company is hired, its focus will only be on finding Lucas.

A Texas investigations and consulting firm confirms it has been contacted regarding the disappearance of five-year-old Lucas Hernandez.

"We can confirm that we are working with a family in the area that is not affiliated to any family member in consideration of taking on the case," said Klein Investigations in a Facebook post.

A GoFundMe page has been started to raise $28,000 to obtain the servces of Klein Investigations.

"If we should be hired - our focus would ONLY be on finding Lucas," continues the business' post. "Tim Miller and the fine team at Equu-search have done a great job in this attempt to find the child. We will make an announcement at the time if we are hired."

Lucas was reported missing from his southeast Wichita home on Feb. 17. His step-mother, Emily Glass, remains in the Sedgwick County jail on child endangerment charges. Prosecutors say she smoked marijuana the day before reporting Lucas missing. She was also caring for her one-year-old daughter at the time.

The family of Lucas Hernandez, the 5-year-old boy missing for about two months, says they are hiring a private investigator.

A GoFundMe page organized by Lucas' father details the effort and the associated cost with hiring a private investigator. The fundraising goal is $28,000.

Lucas was reported missing on Feb. 17.

Wichita police have closed the special tip line it once used to collect tips for missing five-year-old Lucas Hernandez.

Officer Charley Davidson said the number of tips have steadily decreased in the case. He did not know by how much.

He confirmed Texas EquuSearch has returned to Wichita to continue to look for the missing boy.
