Wichita police warn local businesses about shoplifting flash mobs

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) Wichita police are warning local businesses about potential shoplifting flash mobs.

They say large groups of juveniles have targeted businesses near 21st and Woodlawn, now they're asking affected businesses to help them catch the criminals.

Abdullah Noman is an employee at Food Mart gas station at 21st and Woodlawn. He says the store had to change its hours from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. after the group attacked him.

"I was stopping them to run away from the store. They pushed me like this and hit me. They are minors. I can't touch them so they left," he said.

Another business right across from the street was robbed on Tuesday. Not even old enough to buy alcohol, the kids ran inside ABC Discount Wine & Liquor and stole whatever they could handle.

"It's really frustrating because we'd like to be able to trust everyone. That comes in here and not have to worry about oh.. this person going to be stealing?" Said Zach Harrison

The business owners say it's the same kids doing it over and over again. Police say it's time for parents to have a conversation with their children.

"It's a huge conversation that parents, caregivers, family members, parents, teachers, need to have with young people growing up. They need to understand that stealing is not the way to go," said .

Police are asking affected business owners who have not filed a report to call the Case Desk at 316 268-4221.
