A Wichita woman is in critical condition after being shot by her ex-boyfriend.
Lt. Todd Ojile, with the Wichita Police Departments, said around 4 p.m. officers were dispatched to the 2600 block of N. Meadow Oaks for a 22-year-old woman with an extreme head injury.
The woman was transported to Wesley Medical Center in very critical condition. Police believe the woman had been there since about noon.
Ojile said investigators learned that family members had been trying to contact the woman throughout the day, but weren't able to contact her.
Ojile said the woman was supposed to pick her mother up earlier in the day, but she never showed up.
The woman ended up getting a ride home from a co-worker. That's when she discovered her daughter inside the home.
Through interviews with family members, investigators learned the woman had recently broken up with her boyfriend. But she had communication with him over the last two weeks.
Police located the man at a residence in Andover. He was arrested and booked into the Sedgwick County jail for attempted first degree murder and aggravated burglary.
Early Tuesday morning, police recovered a handgun from a lake in far east Wichita.
