WICHITA, Kan. Wichita police Thursday arrested a 30-year-old woman for an attempted kidnapping reported at the Burlington Coat Factory store in the 8100 block of East Kellogg.

Police say Jasmine Patterson faces one count of attempted kidnapping. The crime happened about 1:15 p.m. Thursday, police say.

"Officers made contact with a 28-year-old female who reported that Patterson had approached her, asked her if she would call the police if she took her daughter," police say.

They say Patterson then grabbed the woman's 4-year-old daughter by the arm and began to walk away.

The woman was able to grab her daughter away from Patterson, left the store and called 911, police say. The child wasn't hurt.

"Officers arrived and located Patterson leaving the business and she was arrested without further incident," police say.

They say Patterson may have a mental disability "that possibly played a role in this incident."
