Woman robbed at gunpoint in W. Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) Two men are on the run after police say they robbed a woman at gunpoint in her own home.

Linda Phelps is doing well considering less than 24-hours ago, she had a gun pointed at her face.

"This is the first time I've had anything like this happen to me," says Phelps. "I did have a guy walk in one time when he thought some other people lived here."

Phelps says she was in her back bedroom when she heard a loud noise in the living room. Curious, she went to see what it was.

"It didn't register to me what it was," recalls Phelps," So, I came over and opened up the door. He was standing about five feet away from me and when I opened up the door, he whirled around and put his arm over his face."

Phelps says the man stood in her living room with a gun.

"When he cocked his gun, I got the message. That wasn't anybody playing a trick on me," she remembers.

According to police, the men kicked in her front door, damaging the door frame and door lock.

In the moment, Phelps says she didn't have time to be afraid. She says she did what she needed to do to stay alive.

"You know, I didn't have sense enough to be scared. I'm still not terribly terrorized by it or anything. It just happened so fast", she says.

Phelps was able to get a description of the pickup truck the men were driving and call police.

She doesn't own a gun but wants something to protect herself if this happens again.

"I want a taser gun for Christmas. I'll use it next time. He won't be getting up off that floor until the police get here," says Phelps.

Phelps says after our interview, she went to tell her neighbors about what happened to her so they could be on the lookout.
