'You Drink. You Drive. You Lose:' Statewide enforcement kicks off Thurs.

Local and state police agencies across the state Thursday begin enforcement aimed at cracking down on people driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The campaign, "You Drink. You Drive. You Lose," underwritten by the Kansas Department of Transportation runs Thursday (Aug. 15) through Labor Day, Sept. 2.

"If you're driving impaired, you are not only more likely to crash, but you are much more likely to cause serious injury or death to yourself and others when you do crash," Andover Patrol Lieutenant Ben Graber says. "We are asking all citizens on the roadways -- drivers and passengers alike -- to watch out for suspicious behaviors."

If you see anyone you suspect may be driving under the influence, Andover police say you should note your location, vehicle description and the direction in which the driver is traveling, and call 911 "as soon as it's safe to do so."

"You may save a life," Andover police say.

The Andover Police Department is one of about 190 local and state police agencies participating in the enforcement.
