Wichita native and former Bishop Carroll standout Blake Bell has been able to navigate his way through the NFL for five years now. For fans in Wichita it has meant following Bell from a distance through his first few years in the league. Now, they are able to follow the hometown favorite up close as he continues with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Bell has made a number of transitions, including a position change from college where he ran over Big 12 defenses for the Oklahoma Sooners. Since he joined the NFL Bell has traded throwing passes for catching them, and has joined arguably the most explosive offense system complete with the league M-V-P.
Eyewitness Sports caught up with Bell following the Chiefs preseason loss to the San Francisco 49ers, one of his former teams. Bell says he has been enjoying the journey thus far adding, "It is awesome, and really a blessing. You have to take it day by day because nothing is promised in this league," he said.
When asked about the tight end position and adjusting to the Chiefs high-powered offense he spoke highly of veteran teammate Travis Kelce. "I am learning all I can get and I am having fun with it," he said. "All of the guys, like Trav, I am learning a lot from them and doing what I can, do to be on the field, special teams or offense and doing whatever I can to help this team win," Bell explained.
