Bob Sutton Fired as Chiefs Defensive Coordinator

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KWCH/Release) The Kansas CIty Chiefs have relieved defensive coordinator Bob Sutton of his duties, the team announced Tuesday afternoon.

The team released this statement from Head Coach Andy Reid:

“Bob is a good football coach and a great person. He played an integral role in the success of our team over the last six seasons. I’ve said before that change can be a good thing, for both parties, and I believe that is the case here for the Chiefs and Bob. This was not an easy decision, but one I feel is in the best interest of the Kansas City Chiefs moving forward.”

Sutton was the team's defensive coordinator from 2013-2018, serving under Reid since he was hired by the Chiefs six years ago.

In 2018, the Chiefs defense finished ranked 31st in the league, 31st against the pass and 27th against the rush in yards allowed.

The Chiefs saw their season come to an end Sunday, an overtime loss to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game.
