CARBONDALE, Ill. (KWCH) -- Jerry Kill took over as the full-time Athletic Director for Southern Illinois University Thursday, after filling in as an interim AD since April.

The Cheney native coached the Salukis football team from 2001 to '07 before moving on to Northern Illinois and then most famously Minnesota for four seasons. Kill retired in October 2015 for health reasons.

Kill served as the Associate Athletic Director for Kansas State under Bill Snyder in 2016, before returning to the football field one year later as an offensive coordinator for Rutgers.

He retired once more in 2017 for more health reasons.

Kill, 57, will earn $215,000 per year as both the AD and the Special Assistant to the Chancellor.
