Garden City CC pushes back kickoff for Saturday's game due to heat

GARDEN CITY, Kan. Saturday's game between Garden City Community College and Ellsworth Community College in Garden City is moved up to 6 p.m. from its originally scheduled 1 p.m. start due to heat.

Saturday afternoon's forecast in Garden City calls for a high temperature in the low 90s with a clear, sunny sky.

The adjustment for Saturday's game comes as Garden City Community College continues to deal with the fallout of a player's heat-related death last summer.

An autopsy concluded that Braden Bradforth died from a heat stroke after practice on Aug. 1, 2018. The findings The findings came with a push from Bradforth's mother and a New Jersey congressman for an independent investigation into what happened leading up to Bradforth's death and the team's response.

In May, the Garden City Community College Board of Trustees voted to authorize an external investigation into Bradford's death.

Bradforth, a New Jersey native, died at a Garden City hospital Aug. 1 after a teammate found him in his dorm that night, in medical distress.
