George Brett headlines 2017 Kansas Sports Hall of Fame

The Kansas Sports Hall of Fame (KSHOF) has announced the members of the Class of 2017 who will be inducted on Sunday, October 1st in Wichita.

The KSHOF Class of 2017 consists of 13 members, including: thirteen-time MLB All-Star and 1980 American League MVP, George Brett of Mission Hills; two-time All-American and first women’s track National Champion at KU, Kristi Kloster Burritt of Olathe; Wichita Heights High School basketball coach and Wichita area tennis coach and enthusiast, Charles “Goose” Doughty; three-sport star at KU and two-time Pro Bowl selection with the Cleveland Browns Galen Fiss from Johnson City; 1954 KU cross country national champion and three-time All-American Al Frame of Kinsley; college football coaching legend from Girard, Dennis Franchione; Olympic gold medalist and member of 1952 KU basketball national championship team Dean Kelley from McCune; member of Pittsburg State 1957 national championship football team and professional and college football coach John Levra from Arma; two-sport athlete at Wichita State and eight year major league baseball player from Kingman, Don Lock; junior college women’s basketball coach at Barton and Cloud Jerry McCarty from Coffeyville; K-State women’s basketball All-American Priscilla Gary-Sweeney; KU basketball player and former president of the Kansas Golf Associaion Gerald Waugh from Wellington; and Wichita State baseball All-American and member of 1989 national championship team, Eric Wedge. Charles Doughty, Galen Fiss and Dean Kelley will be honored posthumously.

The induction ceremony will be held on Sunday, October 1, 2017, in Wichita. The 13 member class raises the total number of Kansas Sports Hall of Fame inductees to 273. The Kansas Sports Hall of Fame is in its 56th year of operation.

The 2017 Induction weekend will also see the return of the KSHOF Golf Classic on Monday, October 2, 2017, at Crestview Country Club in Wichita. Proceeds from the 2017 KSHOF Golf Classic will go toward the “Raise the Roof” fund to repair, replace, and maintain, the roof at the home of the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame, the Wichita Boathouse.
