WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State and Oklahoma State have agreed to a four-year series, beginning next season in Stillwater, Okla.
OSU comes to Wichita in December of 2020 and 2022. The Shockers will visit OSU’s Gallagher-Iba Arena in December, 2019 and 2021.
The schools played a home-and-home in 2016 and 2017, ending what had been a 14-year series hiatus. On Dec. 17, 2016, OSU defeated the Shockers, 93-76 at INTRUST Bank Arena. WSU avenged the loss a year later (Dec. 9, 2017) with a 78-66 victory in Stillwater. It was the Shockers’ first win at Gallagher-Iba Arena since 1957.
OSU does not appear on the Shockers’ 2018-19 schedule, but the programs maintained ties with a closed-door scrimmage earlier this month in Wichita.
The schools have played 39 times overall, dating back to 1934, with 24 of those meetings taking place between 1946 and 1957 when OSU (then known as Oklahoma A&M) was a member of the Missouri Valley Conference.
OSU leads the all-time series 30-9 (15-5 in Wichita and 15-3 in Stillwater). In the series’ lone neutral court meeting, WSU punched its first Final Four ticket with a 54-46 win over the Cowboys in the 1965 Midwest Regional Final in Manhattan, Kan.
With the addition of Oklahoma State, WSU’s 2019-20 schedule continues to take shape. In addition to the game in Stillwater, the Shockers will also receive return visits from Oklahoma and VCU in December, 2019.
Single-game tickets are available for Wichita State’s 7 p.m. Tuesday night exhibition game against Catawba, as well as for next Tuesday night’s season opener against Louisiana Tech. Call 316-978-FANS or visit goshockers.com/mbbtickets to purchase seats.
