Nico Hernandez remains undefeated

PARK CITY, Kan. (KWCH) -- Nico Hernandez improves to 3-0 with a unanimous decision over Kendrick Latchman Saturday night.

Wichita native and 2016 Olympic Bronze Medalist Nico Hernandez makes his Professional Debut against Patrick Gutierrez on Saturday March 25, 2017 during KO Night Boxing at the Kansas Star Arena. Hernandez defeated Gutierrez by TKO in round four to begin his Pro career 1-0.

He ended his knockout streak at two matches, after winning his third 59-55, 59-55, 60-54 in six complete rounds.

Hernandez's third bout began in a bizarre string of events, when his original opponent Francisco Lapizco left the card for a breach of contract.

Then his second opponent, Basyzbek Baratov, pulled out of the fight after Hernandez weighed in overweight in Friday night's official weigh-in. He came in at 113 lbs - a pound over the 112 lb requirement.

In a series of tweets, Nico Hernandez says his original opponent pulled out of the fight this morning 'stating false reasons why.'

He also says he wants everyone to know that he is taking a 'blind fight against a new opponent tonight to show a fight for his fans.'

His blind opponent, Latchman, is an MMA fighter that won five of his six wins by knockout.
