Bishop Carroll sophomore Hope Jackson is already one of the best cross country runners in the state, and a key factor in the Golden Eagle’s push for its first team state title since 2011.

This past weekend she won the Rim Rock Farm classic, one of the most competitive races of the season.

“It was really cool and it was really rewarding knowing that I’ve worked so hard for this,” Hope said. “I finally did it and last year I got 13th so it was a big difference.”

Hope is no stranger to big accomplishments. She won the City League as a freshman by 53 seconds and finished fourth in class 5a last season.

“I’m going to keep pushing harder and harder. This year we started training with the boys cross country team so that helps a lot because there’s always usually a boy that’s faster than me that I can run my workouts with or try and keep up with,” Hope said.

Bishop Carroll Cross Country Coach Cory Swords said training with the boys’ team gives Hope a competitive edge.

“I think her being able to push herself in practice with the guys and know what she’s capable of and do workouts alongside of them builds her confidence,” Swords said. I think it’s helped her realize if I can run with these guys then I can run with the girls I’m going to face no matter how big the stage or no matter how big the competition is.”
