Shaq earns AAC player of week honors

Morris led No. 19 Wichita State to a 2-0 week in American Athletic Conference play, drawing the Shockers within one game of first place. On Thursday, Morris’ 23-point, 13-rebound effort carried Wichita State past Temple before he stuffed the box score with 13 points, three rebounds, two blocks and two steals in a win over No. 5 Cincinnati. On the week, Morris 14 of 19 from the field.


Shawn Williams ∙ R-Fr. ∙ G ∙ ECU ∙ Little Rock, Ark.

For the fourth time this season, Williams collects rookie of the week honors, tying for the most in a season in conference history. In a 1-1 week for ECU, Williams averaged 27.5 points, going a combined 13 of 19 from three-point range. Williams hit all six of his three-point attempts in finishing with 29 points in ECU’s win at Tulane before knocking down seven three’s against UConn en route to a 26-point effort.


Jalen Adams ∙ Jr. ∙ G ∙ UConn ∙ Roxbury, Mass.

In a 1-1 week for UConn, Adams averaged 17.0 points and 6.0 assists per game. Against Tulsa, Adams handed out a season-high 11 assists, following it up with a 26-point, 6-assist effort in the Huskies’ win at ECU.

A.J. Davis ∙ R-Sr. ∙ G/F ∙ UCF ∙ Atlanta, Ga.

Davis averaged 22.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week for UCF, knocking down 70-percent of his three-point attempts. Davis posted a career-high 26 points against USF before notching his sixth double-double of the season versus SMU.

Devin Davis ∙ R-Sr. ∙ F ∙ Houston ∙ Indianapolis, Ind.

Davis posted consecutive double-doubles as Houston closed within a game of first place in The American. Against Cincinnati, Davis recorded 16 points and 10 rebounds before a 16-point, 11-rebound outing at Temple.

Mike Parks Jr. ∙ Jr. ∙ F ∙ Memphis ∙ Cleveland, Ohio

Parks turned in his ninth and 10th double-figure scoring games in conference play after not recording such a game in the non-conference. On the week, Parks averaged 16.0 points, helping Memphis win consecutive road games in American action.

Sterling Taplin ∙ Jr. ∙ G ∙ Tulsa ∙ East Amherst, N.Y.

Taplin helped Tulsa extend its winning streak to five games, averaging 18.5 points and 3.5 assists in wins at UConn and versus USF. Against the Huskies, Taplin scored a career-high 30 points, including the go-ahead layup with 40 seconds to play.
