Shockers Picked to Finish 10th by League Coaches

PHILADELPHIA (RELEASE)- Wichita State was picked to finish 10th by the league coaches in the preseason poll it was announced Monday morning.

The Shockers return just 19.8 percent of their scoring from a season ago after the graduation of eight seniors, including All-Conference selection Rangie Bessard. WSU will feature only two seniors (Cesaria Ambrosio and Sabrina Lozada-Cabbage) on the 2018-19 squad and just five upperclassmen total.

Ten newcomers - eight of them true freshmen - make up two-thirds of second year head coach Keitha Adams' roster.

Wichita State is coming off a 14-17 overall record and tying for fifth with a 9-7 mark in their inaugural season as members of the American Athletic Conference.

The Huskies earned all 121 possible points and 11 first-place votes to top the poll for the sixth consecutive year.

UConn and USF culminated the 2017-18 season with trips to the NCAA tournament, while UCF, Cincinnati and Houston earned WNIT bids. Since the conference's inaugural season in 2013-14, all 12 women's basketball programs have made at least one postseason appearance.

All 12 league schools will tip off the conference schedule the first week of January. The 2019 American Women's Basketball Championship will take place March 8-11 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.
