Shockers finish 1-3 at opening tournament

TEMPE, Ariz. (WSU) – The Wichita State University baseball team fell to the Pepperdine Waves, 13-8, in the Angels College Classic on Sunday, Feb. 17, at Diablo Stadium.

Wichita State (1-3) is scheduled to play Stephen F. Austin in the opening game of the UT Arlington Classic Friday, Feb. 22, at 11 a.m. in Arlington, Texas.

Junior Jacob Katzfey went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI to lead the Shockers at the plate, while Jordan Boyer and Jack Sigrist both had a pair of hits, and Mason O'Brien tallied a double.

As a team, WSU had 10 hits, but committed four errors, compared to two miscues for the Waves (3-0).

Junior right-hander Tommy Barnhouse (0-1) was the tough luck losing pitcher for the Shockers. He gave up seven runs, but just one of them was earned, on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts in six innings.

Brandt Belk posted three hits in five at bats to go along with two runs and two RBI, pacing Pepperdine offensively.

Christian Stoutland (1-0) earned the victory on the mound after allowing two earned runs on six hits with two walks in five innings of work.
