RUSTON, La. (WSU) -- Eyeing an undefeated mark in the La Tech Invitational, Wichita State managed to come out with an 8-0 shutout win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday.
Wichita State collected eight hits as a team while forcing the Knights to a .105 batting average.
Wylie Glover managed to come up with her first career home run, tying a career high with three RBI. Erin McDonald pitched six shutout innings, only allowing two hits and striking out one batter in the process.
The Shockers struck first, with Laurie Derrico hitting her second career triple that drove in Ryleigh Buck to move ahead 1-0. Wichita State's offensive power continued in the next inning, with a single from Bailee Nickerson putting two runners on. Glover capitalized with runners on base, knocking in an inside the park home run that gave the Shockers a four-run lead.
After Lauren Mills came up with a single in the top of the third, Neleigh Herring came up with her second home run of the season and drove in her 10th RBI of the La Tech Invitational that moved the Shockers out in front by six. The Shockers scored in their fourth straight inning, with Derrico scoring off a bases loaded walk.
Fairleigh Dickinson struggled to get the offense going against McDonald, but came up with a leadoff single in the bottom of the fifth. The Shockers, however, answered back with a 6-4-3 double play and came up with a putout that kept the shutout alive.
Hitting .307 as a team, six Shocker batters managed to collect hits. Derrico extended her hitting streak to six games, with Nickerson extending her hitting streak to four games and Herring to three.
Wichita State (7-3) continues its non-conference road trip on Friday, competing in the Maverick Invitational in Arlington, Texas. The Shockers will start with UT Arlington at 1 p.m. on Friday.
