In a year that saw him win his first tournament on the Korn Ferry tour, Sterling native Michael Gellerman has earned his PGA Tour card in his sixth year as a professional.
Gellerman, who won the KC Golf Classic in May, also finished top three at last month's Colorado Classic. He clinched his PGA tour status over the weekend despite a missed cut in the final tournament of the season. Gellerman finished 21st in the Korn Ferry Tour point standings; the top 25 finishers all earn PGA Tour status.
The former Sterling Black Bear was three times a state champion in high school, earning a scholarship to golf at the University of Oklahoma. Gellerman competed at the Wichita Open four times while on the Korn Ferry Tour, with a career best finish at Crestview of T-17 in 2016.
In addition to Gellerman, a pair of past Wichita Open champions earn their cards this year: 2019 winner Henrik Norlander finished 11th, while 2014 winner Sebastian Cappelen took 16th respectively.
