KANSAS CITY, Mo. The Chiefs put on the pads for the first time in the 2018 campaign Thursday night, falling 17-10 to the Houston Texans at Arrowhead Stadium.
It was a game that wasn't settled until the final play when tight end Alex Ellis couldn't quite handle a pass from Chase Litton that was broken up in a back corner of the endzone.
Kansas City's offense struggled for much of the night, starting with quarterback Patrick Mahomes who did complete five of seven passes, but only compiled 33 yards through the air and failed to score with the first-team offense.
The Chiefs trailed 14-7 at the half. Backup quarterback Chad Henne led Kansas City on its one touchdown drive, capped by a 24-yard strike to Demarcus Robinson.
The Chiefs will next be in action next Friday (Aug. 17) at Atlanta for its second of four preseason games. Kansas City's regular season kicks off at 3:05 p.m. Sept.9 at the Los Angeles Chargers. You can watch the season opener on KWCH 12.
