UConn Shuts Down Shockers in Series Opener, 4-0

HARTFORD, Conn. (WSU release) UConn starting pitcher Mason Feole struck out 10 and tossed seven shutout innings, helping the Huskies blank the Wichita State baseball team, 4-0, in the series opener of a three-game American Athletic Conference series Friday evening, May 3, at Dunkin' Donuts Park in downtown Hartford.

Wichita State (20-25, 5-11 American) and UConn (28-18, 8-8 American) will wrap up the series with a doubleheader starting at 11:30 a.m. CT (12:30 p.m. ET) Saturday, May 4, at Dunkin' Donuts Park.

Feole, a left-hander who was tabbed The American Preseason Pitcher of the Year, allowed just two hits on 119 pitches while tallying only two walks to go along with his 10 Ks, improving to 2-3 on the season.

Redshirt senior Mason O'Brien, junior Jacob Katzfey and freshman Brady Slavens tallied the Shockers only hits of the game, pacing Wichita State offensively.

Sophomore right-hander Liam Eddy suffered the loss on the mound for WSU, giving up three earned runs on six hits with four walks and two strikeouts in six innings of work, dropping to 4-6 in 2019.

John Toppa led the Huskies in the batter's box, going 2-for-3, while Kyler Fedko drove in a game-best two runs, respectively.

UConn reliever Jacob Wallace secured his team-high 10th save of the season, getting the final out of the ninth after the Shockers got the tying run on-deck with a two-out single from Slavens and Ross Cadena hit by a pitch.
