Upcoming K-State basketball games include effort to support service members, families

MANHATTAN, Kan. K-State Sports Monday announced information for an upcoming effort to help service members and their families ahead of Christmas.

The Kansas State University Athletic Department will accept toy donations for For Riley's Operation Santa Santa Claus. at a pair of upcoming home basketball games.

Fans are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys or gift cards to Saturday's (Dec. 15) men's game against Georgia State or prior to the women's game vs. Central Arkansas on Dec. 20. Both games tip at 7 p.m.

"In exchange for the toy donation, fans will be able to purchase a single-game ticket for just $5 to the men's game or a $3 ticket to the women's game," K-State Sports says.

Operation Santa Claus, celebrating its 34th year, helps service members and their families provide gifts for their children during the holiday season.

"All donation will go towards a Fort Riley soldier, especially to families under financial constraints and families of deployed, fallen, or injured soldiers." K-State Sports says.

"It helps brighten the holiday season for Soldiers and their families," said Sgt. 1st Class Bryan Ferguson, head elf for Operation Santa Claus. "Everybody has an upbeat attitude about it, so it’s just a great program.”

K-State Sports says gifts being accepted are for children from infants to 18-year-old and ranging in the $15 to $20 price range.
