WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) Wichita State head coach Gregg Marshall announced that walk-on junior Eli Farrakhan has been awarded a full scholarship for the spring 2019 semester.
Farrakhan – a 5-foot-11 point guard from Melbourne, Fla. – is in his first season as a Shocker after helping Central Georgia Tech to last year’s NJCAA National Tournament. The extra scholarship became available following semester departure of Chance Moore.
Marshall praised Farrakhan while announcing the news to the team, prior to Monday afternoon’s film session:
“The way you’ve handled yourself in this program, the way you’ve been respectful to everyone… Everyone loves hanging around you. You’re a leader. You’re doing great in the academic world. Congratulations.”
Farrakhan has totaled two points in 17 minutes this year. Coaches describe him as a tough defender and capable shooter. While he’s only appeared in six games, Marshall hasn’t been afraid to use Farrakhan in crunch time. Three of his appearances have come in the first half of road games with the team’s primary ballhandlers in foul trouble.
Farrakhan and the Shockers head to ECU on Wednesday night for a 6 p.m. CT tip on ESPNEWS.
