Washington Wizards sign Ron Baker

After his release by the New York Knicks, it hasn't taken Scott City native and former Wichita State star Ron Baker long to find a new home.

ESPN reports the Washington Wizards have signed the guard from western Kansas.

Baker appeared in 92 games, had 14 starts over three seasons with the Knicks and averaged 14.7 minutes, 3.3 points, 1.8 assists and 1.5 rebounds per game.

He originally signed as an undrafted rookie free agent on Aug. 1, 2016, before re-signing on Aug. 7, 2017.

"Ron is a true professional and we thank him for all of his contributions during his time with the Knicks," said Steve Mills, President, New York Knicks. "His dedication and passion for the game are unquestioned and have been truly appreciated by our fans and organization. We wish him all the best."

Baker responded to the announcement with his own tweet, "NYK was truly great to me. My family, friends and I can’t thank you enough! 8-year-old RDB at the Utica KS park appreciated it!"
