Transformer blows underground in downtown Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A blown transformer underground led to an unsightly scene in downtown Wichita. Black smoke could be seen coming from the manholes near 3rd and Market on Friday afternoon.

The Wichita Fire Department said the Salvation Army was evacuated due to the fire. Crews also closed the road while they investigated the fire that threatened the possibility of “toxic smoke.”
