Calif. man dies after being hit by car in SW Wichita

One man is dead after being hit by a car Sunday evening near 135th Street West and MacArthur Road.
A little after 8 p.m. Sunday, the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office says 78-year-old Jimmie D. Smith, of San Bruno, Calif. was walking west across 135th Street West in the 4100 block south, when he was hit by a southbound 2008, Pontiac G6, driven by an 18-year-old man from Milton, Kan.
The sheriff's office say the investigation indicates the driver did not see Smith because he was wearing dark clothing. Police say the driver immediately stopped and called 911 after Smith was hit.
Smith died at the scene, the sheriff's office says.
