No one injured, home damaged in S. Wichita explosion
Crews with the Wichita Fire Department Tuesday afternoon responded to a house explosion in the 2100 block of South Pattie, near Pawnee and Hydraulic in south Wichita.
We're told no one was inside the home when it happened and no one was hurt.
A little before 4 p.m., a caller made an emergency call to report damage to a home that included windows blown out. As of 4:30 p.m. The initial call reported a house fire. Then, people in the area heard an explosion, fire officials say.
One fire official says the explosion was powerful enough to move the house off of its foundation. Crews are investigating to determine the cause of the explosion.
Patric Manda, who lives in the neighborhood on South Pattie reported hearing an explosion he described "like a shotgun blast." He says he thought the source of that "blast" was his neighbor's house and he went outside to investigate.
He noticed smoke coming from two houses down, then heard sirens. Manda says he was on the phone when the reported explosion happened.
"It freaked me out," he says. "I thought maybe it was an earthquake."
