Dodge City police use drones to assist with investigations
You might soon hear buzzing sound around Dodge City.
The police department has launched its new drone program and says the devices will make a difference in cases involving missing children, crashes and fires.
"It's a quicker more efficient way of searching. Where maybe you have six cops in the street at a time. We might not be able to search a broad area very quickly. With this, we will be able to do that much faster and be able to utilize it to look down on the situation and have better eyes on everything," says Deputy Chief Jerad Goertzen.
The department currently has two drones and one trained pilot, but it expects to train three more officers.
"They can expect us to use them and as soon as we get everyone trained, we're going to use them as much as we can," says Goertzen.
The drones have been used in two cases so far.
