Police investigate S. Wichita shooting as home accident

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) Update Monday, Nov. 13

Wichita police are investigating a shooting that happened on south Topeka Sunday night as a home accident.

Around 9:45 p.m., officers were called to a home in the 800 block of S. Topeka for a shooting.

When they arrived, they found a 42-year-old man with a single gunshot wound to his calf. His 36-year-old spouse was also at home.

The man told police his friend dropped a handgun that discharged and struck his leg then left when 911 was called.

He was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.

The shooting happened around 9:30 p.m on Sunday night in the 800 block of south Topeka.

Police say the man was struck in the leg and is expected to be okay. He was taken to the hospital with potentially serious injuries.

No word yet on a suspect in the case.
