Two killed in McPherson County crash

A 21-year-old Lyons man and a 19-year-old McPherson woman were killed in a Wednesday evening crash when the vehicle they were in hydroplaned, crossed the center lane of traffic and was hit by a grain truck on US 56, two miles west of 2nd Road, near Windom in McPherson County. The crash was reported about 7 p.m.
The report from the Kansas Highway Patrol says a 2002 Chevy Impala, driven by 21-year-old Nicholas A. Schwartz was westbound on US-56 when it hydroplaned and crossed over into the eastbound lane of traffic. The Impala was hit by the grain truck and came to rest in the south ditch, the KHP report says.
A passenger in the Impala, 19-year-old Rebecca J. Deist, was also killed in the crash. The driver of the grain truck was not injured, the KHP reports.
