It's a city synonymous with the Old West, and once again Dodge City has earned the honor of being a "true western" town.

Dodge City came in at number eight in "True West" magazines yearly list of true west towns. The awards are given to towns that have made efforts to preserve the past and share history.

Dodge City has been in the magazine's top 10 for four years. Executives with the Dodge City Convention and Visitors Bureau say they are thrilled and excited to once again make the top 10.

"We have a great, world-class museum in Dodge, but we also have people who work hard individually to preserve the past and I think that's what sets us apart." said Jan Stevens with the Dodge City C.V.B.

One of the points the magazine highlighted for Dodge City is its "longest clearly identifiable section of the Santa Fe Trail".

The list was published in the magazine's February 2012 edition. Click here or on the related link to visit "True West" magazine's website.
