On a night when Perry Ellis and the Heights Falcons took a break from assaulting the record books, North’s Conner Frankamp stepped up and stole headlines. The sharpshooting junior poured in 47 points for North as the Redskins took down East 69-66.
Frankamp passed former East great Korleone Young for fifth all-time on the City League scoring list with his first hoop of the night. He now has 1,476 points in his career. This was the third time this season that Frankamp eclipsed the 45-point mark. East’s Jalen Love had a banner night with 28 points of his own in the loss.
Northwest took down West 65-57 just a week ahead of the highly anticipated game with Heights. Kendrick Miller and Craig Nicholson led the way with 17 points each for the Grizzlies. Daylin Thomas had a game-high 19 points in the loss.
Carroll held off a furious charge from Kapaun to win 59-53 at home. Jordan Bieberle had 19 points to lead the Golden Eagles. Logan Bullinger was right there with 13 points of his own. Kapaun’s Michael Martin poured in 21 points in the loss.
Southeast dispatched South 76-52. The Golden Buffaloes jumped out to a 22-2 lead after the first quarter and cruised from there. Reggie Smith had 23 points, while D’avonte Garland had 18 to buoy the Buffaloes. Diallo Wesley led the Titans with 19 points.
Derby claimed a 64-55 win over Class 5A No. 9 Salina Central at home. Taylor Scheiber had 21 points and Kyler Steadman chipped in 18 points to get the win for the Panthers. Kyle McQuaige had 26 points to lead all scorers in the loss.
Hutchinson beat Newton 47-36. Ethan Mitchell had 18 points and Conner Ryan had 16 for the Salina South Cougars in a 51-39 victory over Campus.
Andover Central remained undefeated in a 50-37 win over Goddard. Taylor Lock had 14 points to lead all scorers. Teammates Zach Winter and Cole Kretchmar were right behind with 12 and 10 points respectively. Eisenhower rolled Ark City 68-36. Andover thumped Valley Center 62-41.
Buhler got 26 points and some late heroics from Brandon Givens to beat the Collegiate Spartans 39-37. Clearwater avenged an earlier season loss to Mulvane with a 58-52 win over the Wildcats.
Travis House dropped 23 points and the El Dorado Wildcats blew the game open in the second half to take down Maize South 57-39. El Dorado was only up one point at the half, but came out and outscored the Mavericks 33-16 in the second half to win comfortably.
Kyler Steinkamp scored 20 points and his Augusta Orioles won 66-49 over Wellington. Winfield took an out-of-league win over Garden City 52-45. Landon Fox was the only Viking in double figures with 14 points. Eight different Vikings scored in the win. Jake Curran had a game-high 19 points in the loss.
Medicine Lodge got by Cheney 78-74 in overtime. Bryan Hellman poured in 30 points to lead the Indians. Three other Medicine Lodge players finished in double figures on the night. Douglass also needed overtime, but the Bulldogs dispatched Belle Plaine 61-50. Bluestem took down Chaparral 54-44.
Independent remained unbeaten in Central Plains League play with a 65-53 win over rival Wichita Trinity. Eddie Fahnestock had 18 point in the win. Ryan Miller led the Knights with 16 points in the loss.
Conway Springs won a defensive struggle over Garden Plain 35-26. Joseph Gerber had 12 points for Conway Springs. Garden Plain’s Josh Becker matched him with 12 of his own.
Nick Deterding, Quinn Dippel and Holden Hendricks scored 44 of Smoky Valley’s 55 points as the Vikings nipped Halstead 55-53. Deterding had 16 of those points, while Dippel and Hendricks had matching 14-poing outputs.
Pratt remains unbeaten after thrashing Nickerson 77-32. Hillsboro outscored Lyons by 13 to win 58-45.
At the beginning of the night there were still 10 unbeaten teams in boys basketball across the state. Now there are just nine after Sterling took an overtime loss to Hesston 59-50. Seth Humphreys did what he could for the Black Bears with a game-high 20 points. Tyler McCartney had a team-high 17 points for Hesston.
Haven used big nights from Jed Beachy and Luke Johnson to handle Kingman 63-47. Beachy had 19 points and Johnson was right behind with 18 of his own.
Moundridge bounced back from a loss to take down Hutchinson Trinity 64-40. Inman beat Canton-Galva 50-39. Bennington handled Ell-Saline 46-27. Remington used 25 points from Caleb Tanner and 16 points from Caleb Cherryholmes to oust Sedgwick 54-48.
Meade remains unbeaten after a 71-39 win over Leoti. Harrison Magruder poured in 24 points as Norwich outscored Cunninham by six points, 47-41. Bryant Miller scored 22 points and was one of nine Lakin players to score its 56-47 victory over Cimarron.
South Haven got 16 points each from Coltin Dvorak and Hunter Ray plus 15 from Austin Showman, but it was barely enough in a 60-58 win.
Liberal nipped Great Bend 77-75 in overtime.
