Standoff ends peacefully in east Wichita, Webb Road reopens

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Update: The Wichita Police Department says an incident in east Wichita has been resolved peacefully.

Officers were called to a residential area near Central and Webb Road Friday afternoon for a disturbance with a weapon call.

Lt. Aaron Moses said a woman called 911 to report domestic violence. While on the call, a dispatcher said they heard the woman tell someone who was armed with a knife, no.

The Wichita Police Department, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, SWAT and ICT-1 all responded to the scene. They found out the suspect had felony warrants and tried to coax him out of the residence.

After about three hours, police said the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody without incident. No one was hurt.

Update: Wichita police provided an update on a situation near Central and Webb Road. The street remains closed between Central and Douglas as police respond to the situation.

When officers arrived on the scene, it was determined the suspect had felony charges.

Moses said the suspect had refused to come outside.

“Deescalation time and distance is what it comes down to,” said Lt. Moses. “When we can get time, we can slow things down and can communicate with people, we have safer outcomes and we rely on other agencies as much as possible like COMCARE and our ICT team,” said Lt. Moses.

SWAT is also on the call.

The Wichita Police Department said there is an ongoing police incident in a residential area near Central and Webb Road.

Webb has been shut down between Central and Douglas for an unknown amount of time due to this reported disturbance involving a weapon.

Police said there is no ongoing danger to the general public. The public is asked to avoid the area.
