Wichita police identify 1-year-old killed in shooting near Pawnee & Oliver

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The Wichita Police Department has identified the one-year-old killed in a shooting Monday night as Taidyn Anderson. Police said Anderson and two women, both aged 24, were struck when someone fired into the apartment unit in the 2500 block of S. Oliver.

Both women suffered critical but non-life-threatening injuries according to police. Three other people were in the apartment a the time of the shooting - a 24-year-old man, a 5-year-old girl and a 10-month-old girl - were not hurt.

“I am deeply saddened and outraged by the violent and heinous crime that has occurred in our community. The killing of a 1-year-old child is an unspeakable tragedy that has left us all shaken. This senseless act of violence strikes at the core of our community’s values. Our children should be cherished and protected, not subjected to such senseless acts,” said Chief Sullivan.
