Trump, Biden win presidential primaries in Kansas
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - In arguably the most predictable outcome for a Kansas election in recent history, Sunflower State voters further solidified what’s already been established nationally: the 2024 presidential election is a rematch between Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
In Tuesday’s presidential preference primary in Kansas, unofficial results show Trump earning the state’s Republican nomination with about 70,561 or 75%. Despite bowing out from the race nationally, Nikki Hailey, the last challenger to Trump, garnered an unofficial count of 15,040 votes in the Kansas primary, good for about 16%.
When the race was called, “None of the names shown” was the third most popular option with about 4,900 GOP votes, or about 5%, followed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis at 3% (2,491 votes) and Ryan Binkly at 502 votes.
On the Democratic side of Kansas’s presidential primary, 35,031 votes in the unofficial count secured the win for Joe Biden. The total was good for about 84% of the vote form Kansas Democrats when the race was called. On the Democratic side, “None of the names shown” was second with nearly 4,300 votes, or about 10%. Marianne Williamson notched about 3% of the Kansas Democratic vote with an unofficial count of 1,435 votes, followed by Dean Phillips and Jason Palmer, receiving unofficial counts of 554 and 496 votes respectively.
