Watch Thursday’s presidential debate on 12 News

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - On Thursday night, president Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump will be in Atlanta for the first debate of this presidential campaign.

You’ll be able to watch it at 8 p.m. on 12 News. It’s moderated by Dana Bash and Jake Tapper from CNN.

Some notable points: there will not be an audience, and microphones will be muted when it’s not a candidate’s turn to speak.

While no props or pre-written notes will be allowed on-stage, Biden and Trump will be given a pen, a pad of paper and a bottle of water.

Since the last time these two met, Trump has been convicted of 24 felony counts in a New York “hush money” case, while Biden has come under fire over his handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Dr. Russell Arben Fox, a political science professor at Friends University, explained what voters will be looking for in Thursday’s debate.

“They’ll be looking for evidence,” Fox said. “Is Donald Trump too crazy to be president? Is President Biden really too old to be president? Really picking up on visual cues like that, listening to soundbites, looking for sharp answers to the things they care about.”

The candidates have agreed to one more debate in early September before the November election.
