Orpheum Theatre in Wichita to begin interior restoration in summer of 2025
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - On its 102nd anniversary, Wichita’s Orpheum Theatre announced its Second Century Campaign and plans to restore the historic venue’s interior.
Chairman Glen Nilsen said the campaign, launched during the Orpheum’s 100th anniversary is at 73 percent of its $9.5 million goal.
Restoration of the historic theatre begins in June of 2025 and includes updates to the main auditorium, main stage, grand balcony, and mezzanine.
While bringing back the theater’s Andalusian style designed in 1922, artisans will also restore the ceilings, walls, and floors. New seats, HVAC, improved sound and lighting are also included in the project.
“There has been significant hidden infrastructure work done over the years and it is now time to restore the theatre’s interior including all new seats,” Executive Director Stacee Olden said. “We’ve had volunteer leadership involved in the fundraising efforts and a professional team in place for restoration development. It will continue to be a special place to experience live theatre, music, comedy and more yet it will be honoring the historic features while elevating the patron experience when it opens in 2026.”
The Orpheum will be closed for 12 months to complete the restoration.
The Orpheum Theatre in Wichita is the last of only 17 Orpheums still standing in America to be restored.
