Suspect dead and 2 critically injured in shooting at Colorado high school, officials say

EVERGREEN, Colo. (KKTV/Gray News) - Emergency personnel responded to a Colorado high school for reports of an “active assailant” in the area on Wednesday afternoon.

Jefferson County officials said the activity was first reported at Evergreen High School on Buffalo Park Road in Evergreen

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office initially said three people were injured during the shooting at the high school.

One of those three injured was later identified by authorities as the suspect; a juvenile male who is believed to have used a revolver. The sheriff’s office said he died from a self-inflicted injury.

The other two victims were transported to a hospital in critical condition.

“I am closely monitoring the situation at Evergreen High School, and am getting live updates. State Troopers are supporting local law enforcement in responding to this situation. Students should be able to attend school safely and without fear across our state and nation. We are all praying for the victims and the entire community,” Colorado Gov. Jared Polis said in a statement.

Officials asked parents not to head directly to the school because the investigation was active.

A reunification center was set up at Wilmot Elementary School on South Hatch Drive.
