Kansas senator says local immigration enforcement should focus on people who’ve been convicted
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Democratic Sen. Cindy Holscher says immigration enforcement agreements should be limited to people with prior convictions, weighing in on the authority granted to local agencies and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
Holscher, who is running for governor, said Kansas officers should not pick people up off the street. She said Kansans don’t want that either.

The Overland Park democrat said her concern is what happens after someone is detained by KBI and then handed over to ICE agents. She said people deserve a proper hearing before deportation to determine whether they’re in the country illegally.
“If we’re talking about people who have prior convictions or have been involved in crimes, that’s something different. But what Kansans do not like, they do not like people being taken off the streets without due process,” Holscher said.
