Emporia Police find body of missing 28-year-old Rebecca Rauber

EMPORIA, Kan. (KWCH) - UPDATE: The Emporia Police Department has confirmed that Rebecca Rauber has been found deceased.

She was found in a wooded area about 300 yards south of west 4th Avenue, near where she was last seen on video. Police say at this time, they believe she died from hypothermia, since she was covered in snow.

The Emporia Police Chief, Edward Owens, said K-9 Search and Rescue Kansas found Rauber with the assistance of K-9 Daisy.

“Not the outcome that we had all hoped and prayed for, but our thoughts and prayers are with that family,” Owens said. “Just wish we could have found her a little sooner.”

Her family has been notified. An autopsy will be performed to find out the cause and more accurate time of death.

The investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE: Emporia Police have released more information on the continued search for 28-year-old Rebecca Rauber who was reported missing in the early morning hours of Saturday, Jan. 24.

Rauber was reported missing after leaving the Town Royal bar in the 400 block of Commercial St. on foot without her purse, phone or jacket.

Rauber is approximately 5′8 and 160 lbs with long brown hair with blonde highlights and brown eyes. She has been reported as possibly wearing a Wichita State sweatshirt or a flannel shirt.

Officers began searching for Rauber immediately and used surveillance cameras from businesses in the area. She was seen walking along walking west on W. 5th Ave. Video also shows she was walking north on Neosho St. from W. 5th Ave. around 11:37 p.m. on Friday.

Several additional videos were reviewed, however Rauber did not appear to cross 6th Ave.

A search dog was used Saturday night without success. Emporia Police are using every available resource to locate Rauber including assistance from outside agencies.

Emporia Police are asking residents to remain off the streets in the search area to not interfere with the scent as a bloodhound K9 is assisting.

Police advise residents the best way to help is for anyone within a three to four block radius of 5th Ave. and Neosho St. to review any home surveillance or security camera video from Friday night to early Saturday morning.

Authorities in Emporia are searching for a 28-year-old elementary school teacher who went missing Friday night.

Rebecca Rauber was last seen leaving the Town Royal bar at 405 Commercial St. in downtown Emporia. The last time she was seen was at 11:30 p.m. on Friday.

Her family says she left her phone, keys, jacket and purse. They have yet to hear from her, and they are concerned for her safety.

Rebecca is 5′8″ with brown eyes and brown hair with blonde in it. She may have been wearing a Wichita State University sweatshirt.
