TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - May is Mental Health Awareness Month, but being aware can be tough if you don’t know what you’re looking for.

Some upcoming classes can give you the tools to help your family and others around you. Mikki Burcher with Astra Mental Health and Recovery visited Eye on NE Kansas to share the details.

The upcoming sessions include Mental Health First Aid. The day-long sessions are meant for adults. The one on May 18 is for adults who work with young people, while a May 29 class is for adults to support other adults.

Both classes cover how to spot signs someone is struggling mentally, and how to take action to assist them. To register, email burcher.Mikki@AstraKS.org.

Two other programs are for parents. C.A.R.E. - Child-Adult Relationship Enhancement - is a three-hour sessions on June 11 to improve communication and improve behavior register at AstraKS.org/CAREclass.

The Power of Showing Up program offers more extensive skill-building for reducing stress and anxiety and building confidence in kids. It’s a six-week session, meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays for six weeks, from May 19 to June23. Register at AstraKS.org/ShowingUp.

All of the classes are free.
