Kansas to host program’s first Super Regional against old Big 12 foe

LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) - The Kansas Jayhawks will host the program’s first Super Regional, and do so against an old Big 12 rival.

On Monday, No. 2 national seed Georgia Tech fell in extra innings, 8-7, to the Oklahoma Sooners in the final game of the Atlanta Regional. With the win, the Sooners set up a Super Regional matchup with the No. 15 national seed Kansas.

Oklahoma, which was the home team for the winner-take-all game in Atlanta, won on a walk-off home run in the 10th inning. It capped an Oklahoma comeback after the Sooners trailed 7-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning. OU rallied with two runs in the seventh and a run in the eighth, ninth and 10th to advance to the Super Regionals.

The Jayhawks advanced to the Super Regional by sweeping their way through the first-ever regional hosted at Hoglund Ballpark. KU beat Arkansas 5-3 on Saturday night to advance to the regional final, where they beat Arkansas again Sunday night, 13-10.

Super Regional action begins Friday and Saturday at eight different sites. It’s unclear when KU and Oklahoma’s Game 1 of their best-of-3 series will start.

KU said Monday dates, times and broadcast information for the Super Regionals will be announced at 9 a.m. CT on Tuesday.
