KBI director Tony Mattivi confirmed for seat as federal judge
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The U.S. Senate voted to confirm KBI director Tony Mattivi to a seat on the federal bench.
The vote was 51 to 46.
Earlier this year, president Donald Trump nominated Mattivi to serve as U.S. District Judge for the state of Kansas.
Mattivi is the second of president Trump’s three nominees in Kansas to be confirmed, following Great Bend attorney Jeffrey Kuhlman.
Mattivi’s confirmation ends his three-year term as KBI director. He also served as a federal prosecutor in his role as assistant U.S. attorney for Kansas from 1998-2020.
In 2022, Mattivi ran for Kansas Attorney General, a race ultimately won by former Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach.
As Kansas Attorney General-elect in December of 2022, Kobach announced Mattivi’s nomination for KBI director.
