WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - A new Boeing airplane will soon take flight following clearance from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). On Monday, Boeing confirmed that the agency certified Boeing’s 737 “MAX 7″ jetliner for service.

The plane faced delays as Boeing dealt with setbacks and scrutiny over the past several years, following two deadly crashes involving 737 MAX jets.

In a news release announcing the clearance for the 737-7 to take flight, Boeing recapped its multi-year certification effort.

“This important certification validates the rigor of our airplane’s design and recognizes the determination and resilience of our 737 MAX development team,” said Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, in the company’s news release.

Workers at Boeing’s Wichita facility manufacture much of the fuselage for the company’s commercial jets. In its news release, the company didn’t specify if the FAA’s recent certification will mean more work in Wichita.
