Report: Kansas names Marshall starting QB after camp battle
LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) - An extended training camp battle for the starting quarterback role at Kansas has been decided.
According to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the Jayhawks have named redshirt sophomore quarterback Isaiah Marshall as the starting quarterback.
Marshall beat out former walk-on Cole Ballard, who has played in 15 games over the last three seasons. Marshall played in nine games during the 2025 season, largely appearing largely to run the football.
The 6-foot quarterback from Michigan has only attempted -- and completed -- three passes in his college career.
Marshall will start Kansas’ opener on Sept. 4 against LIU before the Jayhawks ready to host Mizzou a week later. He will be the first Week 1 starter for returning offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki, who is back at KU after multiple seasons at Penn State.
